About this test
Home feng shui, at its practical core, is about three things: where the openings are relative to each other, how people move through the space, and whether the main functions sit in sensible places. Those decide how a home lives, far more than any ornament.
This test runs in two steps. First the eight-mansion formula derives the householder's Kua (east or west group) and lays out the eight directions β Fu Wei, Sheng Qi, Yan Nian and Tian Yi as the four auspicious, Jue Ming, Wu Gui, Liu Sha and Huo Hai as the four inauspicious. Second, you place your actual functions into the nine palaces, and the year's flying stars are layered on top for a score per palace.
The scoring is published: eight-mansion star auspicious +2 / inauspicious β2 (centre not counted); flying stars 1, 6, 8 and 9 give +2, stars 2 and 5 give β2, stars 3, 4 and 7 give 0; function fit gives +2 when both readings suit the function, +1 when one does, β2 when neither does. Doors, living rooms, bedrooms and studies suit auspicious palaces; kitchens and bathrooms suit inauspicious ones. All fixed rules β the same input always returns the same result.

Can I adjust anything if I rent?
Yes. Only walls and door positions are fixed. Furniture, curtains, plants, mirrors and bed orientation are all yours, and that covers most problems. Every suggestion in this test stays inside what you can move.
Do I need to buy feng shui ornaments?
Mostly no. The role of ornaments is heavily overstated; layout and circulation are what actually matter. Get the basics right first, then consider ornaments.
Should I move if my Kua clashes with the orientation?
No. The standard eight-mansion approach is to fit the person to the place: move the bed head, desk and the seat you use most into your own auspicious directions. Only structural problems β a straight-through draught, a door facing a lift β need bigger work.
What if I cannot place a function accurately?
Leave it as not set. That palace then scores without a function component but still shows its eight-mansion and flying star readings. Forcing a guess distorts the score.
